What is MailRift?

MailRift is email hosting for a domain you already own. You get real mailboxes on it — 5 on the Starter plan, up to 100 on Pro — plus a full webmail client, calendar, contacts, forwarding and inbound routing rules. It replaces the mail side of Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, and it is priced per domain instead of per person.

How much does MailRift cost?

There are three self-serve plans, each priced per domain per month: Starter at CHF 4.90 with 5 mailboxes and 5 GB, Plus at CHF 9.90 with 20 mailboxes and 20 GB, and Pro at CHF 29.00 with 100 mailboxes and 100 GB. Paying annually costs about 16% less. Enterprise is quoted individually. There are no per-seat fees, and you can cancel anytime.

Is MailRift priced per user?

No. One subscription covers one domain and every mailbox on it, so adding a colleague costs nothing extra until you reach the plan's mailbox limit.

How do I set up email on my own domain?

Sign in with Google, add your domain, then copy the MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC records into your registrar. MailRift polls until it sees them and activates the domain automatically. Registrars that support Domain Connect can apply the whole set in one click. Most people finish in under five minutes plus DNS propagation.

Can I try MailRift for free?

Yes. Every account can run one free trial. MailRift creates a test subdomain under a domain you own and gives you one mailbox, 1 MB of storage and three outbound emails. No credit card required.

How do the sending limits work?

Accepted Answer

Each domain has four rolling ceilings — per minute, per hour, per day and per month — counted in recipients rather than messages and enforced together atomically. Starter allows 300 recipients a month, Plus 1,000 and Pro 10,000. The shorter windows exist to stop a runaway script from damaging your domain's sending reputation.

Does MailRift have an API and an MCP server for AI agents?

Yes, on the higher plans. The MCP server, which lets AI tools like Claude, Cursor and Windsurf read, send and organise mail in natural language, is available from the Plus plan upward. The REST API, account-scoped API keys and the typed @mailrift/sdk npm package are available from the Pro plan upward. Signed inbound webhooks start on Plus.

Where is my email data stored?

On first-class cloud infrastructure in Germany. Mail bodies, attachments, contacts and calendar entries are encrypted at rest with AES-256 and in transit with TLS. Nothing is replicated outside the EU and nothing is scanned for advertising. MailRift is compliant with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR / DSGVO).

Is there a mobile app?

Yes, for iOS and Android, with push notifications for new mail. The webmail client also works in a phone browser if you would rather not install anything.

Can I use my own mail client over IMAP or SMTP?

IMAP and SMTP access is part of the Enterprise offering rather than the self-serve plans. On Starter through Pro you use the webmail client, the iOS and Android apps, and — where the plan includes them — the REST API and MCP server.

Do I need my own domain to use MailRift?

Accepted Answer

Yes. MailRift puts email on a domain you control, so you need one registered somewhere — Cloudflare, Namecheap, Infomaniak, GoDaddy, anywhere. MailRift does not sell domains.
